Jezz, now we are about to take website video one step further. You've had a taste of it here in the news section but now we've begun to reference them on the forum.
Free photo instruction is getting easier and easier to come by. Not only does the forum allow you easy access to top members in the club, but now you don't even need them.
I've referenced a treasure trove of instructional videos from UTube that I think U guys will get a lot out of. There's so much information here that it's going to take you quite a while to get through it all. If you happen to find something we haven't referenced, if you're registered, you can add it in all by lonesome.
Check it out, Good luck and come back and see us every once in a while.
Aha, yes, the importance of backing up. Here's a little video of what could happen if your not careful. Always watch your back. By the way, codos to B&H for sneaking their dig in.
Time Warp !!
Step back in time to yesteryear, where men were men and digital cameras were cameras that you had to put batteries in.
A disk was recently passed on to me that I thought would be kind of fun to share. It contained some old pictures of when the club first started. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how things were then and where we are now.
Want to see where digital photography is headed in the next couple years. View the below video taken by Kent Smith with Canon 5D mark II (SLR). Kent only had the camera for a few hours in which to get all the clips and images shot. I've shown something like this before but I think its important enough to see again. This should give you a heads up as to the direction client side photography is going in the next couple years and what you are going to have to know in order to compete. Not only are you going to have to know how to take digital stills successfully, you are going to have to become a video expert in shooting and editing. If you don't know how to do this and plan on selling portraits in the future, you'd better start getting your ducks in a row now, your competition is leaving you in the dust.
This isn't the business we knew a few years ago, things are changing very fast for everyone. This isn't your parents photography anymore.
If you haven't visited the forum yet you are missing some good stuff. Several members have already grouped up and created mini field trips.
We have a Photo Competition coming up in January and there is a tutor on how to get some great macro water drop shots. If you have yet to log in or have forgotten your username or password, get with me (Arley) and Ill get it straightened out.
Don't be surprised that, in the near future, you're using your phone to replace your SLR. Camera phones are moving right along with the advancement of technology. Given enough time (and I'm not talking 10's of years), this is going to be a item in your camera bag.
It's already begun ...........
EOS 5D Mark II Video
I said it years ago and now we are getting very close to it becoming a reality. Video will replace stills in the very near future. Imagine being able to capture every single frame of a model shoot and extract that perfect shot. The new Canon 5D Mark II, along with some of the other newer Nikon cameras, shoots high def. Take a look at the video below and let your imagination run wild.
This video was shot with a SLR compressed to 1/4 of the original resolution.
Amazing!
CS4 is here now !!!
Should you or shouldn't you? That is the question. Photoshop 4 is out and a lot of people are scratching their heads wondering if they should make the jump. To Help you make that decision, Kelby training has some of the video highlights of the new version for you to drool over. Check it out and see if it's worth the extra money. If you decide this is for you, go to the academic superstore and get it at rock bottom prices ($300).
If you're planning a vacation in the coming months, you may want to watch this "top ten travel tips" video put on the Camera.com. It just might help you bring home the bacon, so to speak.

New Canon Camera
Jeeeezzzz, I just can't keep up. I'm a Canon shooter. I own both the 5D and 40D. Both great cameras and quickly going obsolete. Now both have been upgraded and both upgrades have some great improvements. Here's some (but not all).

HDR PHOTOGRAPHY
HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography can really make a mediocre photograph shine. If you haven't tried it yet, it doesn't take much to go out in your back yard and snap a couple shots to give it a try. You most likely have everything you need to get started. Watch the video below and you should be an expert in not time.
Note:
We also have some more information on the forum
Dean Collins Video
Those of us that have been around the block for awhile, pretty much know who Dean Collins was. Now you can get a taste of his masterful photographic principles in this online video short posted on U-Tube. This is important stuff. If you don't already know it you need to put this on your list of things to learn. It's about lighting pure and simple. You can have the most perfectly composed picture but without light, its useless. This man was a master of lighting and I highly recommend watching his disks. Learn these concepts and you will go a long way to improving your photography.
Have I got you convinced yet? SmartFlix has a few of his disks to rent. Its very similar to Netflix. Order it online, get it in the mail, watch it and return it when your are done. Sure beats spending hundreds of dollars.
